Is there anyone with a wooden floor in their landing?

We have chosen an amtico floor for the hall, and a stripe carpet for the stairs. As we have so many turns in the stairs, we cannot continue the stripe onto the landing as the stripes wouldn’t work - they’d go in the wrong direction. We are having less heavy duty carpets in the bedrooms so don’t want that on the landing as it won’t last well enough for the amount of footfall it will get.

So we’ve chosen to have the same amtico as is going to be in the hall, on the landing. The flooring shop has said that it will be noisier but not significantly so. I am not convinced. We will have a no shoes policy upstairs.

Any thoughts or experience please?

We had bare boards upstairs in our last house (and painted stairs). I don't think they were particularly noisy - but we didn't have any mobile children at that point, so it may depend on how stompy your family is!

Can you pick a non striped carpet?

We have a painted wooden landing and it’s absolutely fine. I don’t notice it being noisy at all. We have a four year old DD and two year old DS so not a quiet household!

I’m quite jealous of your Amtico

Thank you. I feel quite reassured. We will go with the amtico.

We could of course choose a non stripe carpet. But we need something hard wearing. If we were to choose a non stripe carpet for the landing, we would have amtico in the hall, stripe on the stairs, plain hardwearing on the landing, and different, less hardwearing carpets in the bedrooms that go off the landing. Quite a few different finishes, and the landing is very open. We really like the stripe stairs carpet so that is staying.
