As your thread caught fire and is no longer accepting new messages. I just wanted to say that if nothing else, you come across as exceptionally well balanced and open minded. Not everyone would have coped with putting their home up for criticism and parried all those comments, good or bad. Personally I like to think your flat reflects your intellectual curiosity and creativity. You don’t seem desperate to sell and if it’s meant to be, the right person who can see past the personal possessions etc will come along and be happy to buy a reasonably priced central London flat.

Agreed.

She took the critiques really well, even though some posters were really quite vicious.

It really was Peak Mumsnet for reasons outside of Puffy’s control though!

@whataboutbob THANK YOU. That is the loveliest, kindest thing to say. I am actually really quite relieved now to have taken the flat off the market - and I'm making many plans for it. I'm eyeing up some glossy peacock blue tiles for the kitchen, and I'm thinking of removing the built in dressing table etc. In my bedroom and putting floor to ceiling bookshelves in there. (Though for the books that are already in storage rather than any of the other ones lying around the house 🙈🙈. Now that we're not moving immediately/ ever I'd quite like them back.) I'm considering looking for something much smaller by the sea, and keeping this forever. (DH is a lot less keen on this plan, but we'll see.) Anyway, thank you, again!

@TerribleCustomerCervix indeed it was peak mumsnet, a bracing mixture of snobbery, competitiveness and e-curtain twitching, but also well informed comment and constructive advice. @Puffykins for what it’s worth I made the decision a while ago we’d stay in our zone 3 flat until the kids finish school, that’s 5 years to go. Every decision comes with a degree of compromise, but they are getting good quality education here and are settled in their friendship groups and I didn’t want to jeopardise that. All the best with the work on your flat - have fun!

Puffykins I'm so glad you're considering keeping the flat and looking for something smaller elsewhere. I'm clearly over invested in your personal life but I think it's because of everything whataboutbob says Grin
Good luck to you and your family.

I was very intrigued so looked at your previous post. And I have to say that I love your flat. It’s so interesting and homely, I wouldn’t sell it either

Well said, whataboutbob , and all the very best to Puffykins.

With property, it's often a good idea to take a really long view. Many years ago, when newly-wed, my late parents had a cheap and (at that time) very tatty flat just off Fleet Street. They were perfectly happy in their other, later, homes, but from time to time, would say, 'Oh, if only we'd kept the flat!' They weren't at all upset that they no longer had it, but, at the same time, they were not entirely joking. In later years, it would have been useful to them and to other family members in several different ways.

Update. I've just accepted an offer from the last person who came to see it before we took it off the market - he came because he loves the bathroom ..... he grew up in this area, used to play in our communal garden when he was a child, and is going to live here and love it and I am really happy to sell it to him. Thank you all so much for being so super supportive about everything.

Oh wow @puffykins what a rollercoaster. So nice that someone has come along who is enthused about it and has a personal connection.
