Kitchen floor tiles with pets

Hi all,

Need some advice, we are looking to replace our kitchen and utility floor with large format, lighter colour, durable tiles. The issue is we have dogs and are looking for something that isn’t going to be an absolute dirt magnet.

Has anyone got any recommendations or things to steer clear from?

We're going for cork tiles - environmentally friendly, warm to the touch, waterproof and cool looking! We have 2 dogs and cleaning the floor was a big motivation for us. You can get various colours too.

I would go for porcelain tiles that are not shiny but also not too matt - you don’t want anything with an even slightly rough or powdery texture (like some cement or concrete look tiles for example) as dirt will cling to it. They need to be smooth.

Also go for something with a slight pattern or variation in it, not plain as it will show dirt more. We have wood look porcelain tiles which are 180 x 25 and these do a great job.

Also mid colour grout.

With dogs, a darker colour is better. Mine are terracotta colour and don't show the dirt, thank goodness.

We went for beige polished porcelain as little dirt sticks, the robo hoover gets a lot of dirt off them then I spray mop daily.

On the flip side I’ve seen a lot of people on here struggling to get them shiny not smeary. I’m obviously some sort of tile genius for managing it 🤷🏻‍♀️
