Latest update from the property wire just popped up. We've recently moved into our new place so not looking anymore, but still interesting to know what's going on in the market. This year has made some big impacts on the market as a whole.

Demand for more space drives surge in price of detached properties

Detached doesn't mean more space imo. Some Semis are bigger than detached. The advantage with detached is different to it offering more space.

I agree, you could have a tiny detached house and a huge terraced - it depends entirely on the individual property.

I would imagine that lockdown’s made people a lot more aware of their neighbours and that’s got something to do with wanting detached properties. I had years of nightmare neighbours with blaring music and all night parties before I bought my detached house, and I think I would have had a breakdown dealing with that crap over the last 7 months.

We’ve got a new build detached which we were aware is smaller per square metre than some of the older semi detached houses that we’d seen. The advantage with detached is, as you’ve said, more independence from neighbours.

Also, I think our house looks better being detached. With neighbours you can’t predict how well kept their front of homes will look. Sometimes neighbours can let things down and you’ve got no control over it. Kerb appeal matters and with detached there’s more control over that.
