Keen for an Oriel Window (frameless box glass) seat in my kitchen

Can only seem to find one supplier - Maxlight

Anyone got an idea of costs and lead times?

I looked at one in IQ Glass I think it worked out at about £8k but it was about 3 years ago. Sadly it was definitely beyond my budget but it was lovely and still dream of a window seat!

Hey, I know this thread is a few months old, but wondering if you went ahead with this type of window? We are considering something similar for our planned extension and would like to get an idea of costs. I like the frameless look but DH thinks it will be cheaper to go for a more traditional bay window with glazing to three sides but not the roof.

My oriel dream didn't work out in the end (dodgy builders selling dreams!) but I ordered this window in black and because of how it's fitted, people are able to perch on the ledge quite comfortably and it looks stunning.

I had quote for Max light one think of was about £4.5k

IceandIndigo · 20/05/2021 09:44

@Sunshinev that's really helpful, thanks. How long ago was this quote? Do you recall the approximate size of the window? Ours will be about 1300mm wide.

@themummyway thanks for responding and I'm glad you're happy with the option you went with!

I got a quote from Maxlight for 1.8mx1.5mx0.3m for £6.7k inc VAT. I assumed £8k all in, once I’d paid a builder to prepare the base.

I’m also interested in the idea of having a traditional cantilever bay window instead. I expect that might cost £4K ish (£2k window, £1k base, £1k roof and fitting).

Sunshinev · 21/05/2021 09:11

@IceandIndigo hi it was earlier this year we were looking for one 1120mm x 1700mm it was about £4.5k

I have a traditional bay window seat and love to sit there and talk on the phone / read a book and look out of the window - it's such a wonderful, calming space. Oriel looks like an improvement on that idea but I think standard bay window seat is roughly just as good. I don't think having a glass ceiling makes a big difference to how it feels but it probably makes a big difference to cleaning effort!

Sunshinev · 21/05/2021 14:05

@IceandIndigo I should say that was only to supply - not fit !

Thanks @Sunshinev, that’s really helpful.
