Curains sticking

Hi,
I have recently been decorating my living room and I have painted my curtain rail & curtain rings. It's a basic mahogany curtain rail & rings which I have painted black to fit in with my new colour scheme. However, now I have put my curatins up, they don't slide as easily as they used because I have painted. Can anyone give me a good tip on how to fix this? I've heard that spraying something like Mr Muscle on the rail. Or would cooking oil be any good? I don't really want to spend any more money on this if possible - you know how it is when you completely update your colours in a room & all the little extra bits you keep on buying!! lol. Please help.....

You could try rubbing some sort of wax on top of the rail ?

Furniture polish works a treat on all curtain rails i have: plastic bog standard ones and wooden ones. I can really tell when its time to do them again as the rings start to stick and it is irritating. need to do mine again but its a pain to get the chair in the right place to get up so high - must stop being so lazy!

Hair serum containing silicone or a special silicone spray works best.
