Do you need curtains with wooden blinds?

I want my whole house done in wooden venetian blinds with a fabric cornice box for the living room. Do you need curtains too? I was only planning for curtains in the bedrooms for extra darkness.

Yeah that’s my concern about shutters is blocking out a lot of light particularly downstairs. That’s why I thought about Venetians with tapes to give the shutter style effect but without the solid border that would block light. And if the fabric box idea to dress the window looks weird then I’ll scrap it!

How much roughly to do a three bedroom house with plantation shutters though? I know that varies depending on window sizes but just an average price would help. I thought they were really expensive.

The pic is what I had in mind with blinds and fabric box. Does that look weird?

Mine cost just under £3k for 3 windows. I only did the windows at the front of the house. Couldn't afford to do the back at the time so I just have curtains at the back.

Before we got our plantation shutters we measured up the whole house, kitchen and bathroom included, plus we have a big double patio door set that we got quote for sliding shutters. Total quote was £7k for 8 windows plus patio thing. We ended up doing 4 windows including 2 big bay windows, front house only, top and bottom, which cost £4k. Worth every penny.

This window was £1,200, but it's huge! We had a couple of them, plus some smaller ones.

I wouldn’t mix blinds with a fabric pelmet. Fabric pelmets are quite fussy and the blinds are plain and simple so it’s mixing styles in my view.

I hsve Venetians in my flat above my garage. No curtains. I would also look at Roman blinds which can be given blackout linings for bedrooms. They are minimalist and at least every room isn’t the same so you can decorate differently for different moods.

I got a tip to put a wooden frame around the window and paint white to finish the look of the wooden venetian.

The other thing that has sprung to mind, is whether unlined linen curtains would look good. That’s very much a breezy look but is chic. Not perhaps a lounge look though.
