Anyone else waiting to exchange?

We've been waiting what seems like ages for one document to be returned at the bottom of the chain.

Wanting to exchange last friday but didn't, and didn't today either. Completion date is set for next Friday so we really really need to get it done this week.

Its just so frustrating having to just wait without anything to do!!

I need to do some chasing tomorrow, hopefully we'll hear back from HSBC on our mortgage ( keeping everything crossed) and I need to chase the survey, and the solicitor.

It feels like it's taking forever, its been a long 8 weeks.

bisoubisou · 23/10/2020 08:21

Good morning!!
Hectic day yesterday but we exchanged about 12pm. My MIL was coincidently driving past the property when she saw the vendor’s lawyer taking a final gas meter reading. She asked to have the keys to ‘save us going down to the lawyers to collect’. Was looking forward to doing that as we are FTB but oh well.

Good luck to everyone exchanging in the near future x

XFPW · 23/10/2020 08:50

I think we beat you all - our offer was accepted beginning of March and we’re still not moved.

We signed our contract yesterday and it’s to go to the seller’s solicitor today so hopefully they’ll sign today or Monday. Aiming to complete middle of the following week.

The whole thing has been a bloody nightmare, with our sellers holding things up every step of the way, and simultaneously hassling us daily via text to exchange and complete. We have kept our cool and done everything we can to remain civil with them but I am so done with the whole thing now. I’m sad to say that the house feels tainted almost now because the past 8 months have been so unpleasant. Really hoping when we finally get in that it all feels good again - we have waited a long time for this.

movingonup20 · 23/10/2020 08:56

Heard it's likely to be 2 weeks today completing the following Friday but our solicitor is still waiting on the estate management pack (8 weeks after requesting)

movingonup20 · 23/10/2020 08:58

I'm just fortunate we are in a tier 1 area and everyone is moving locally in the chain so fingers crossed

NotTodayMaybeTomorrow · 23/10/2020 09:42

@lachy hope you get some positive news today.

@bisoubisou hooray-nearly there. I’m FTB too, and I’d be same...hopefully you’ll be in your new house very soon Smile

@XFPW goodness that’s awful. I think I would have pulled my hair out by now. Wishing you the best and hoping this is all done and dusted very soon.

@movingonup20 that’s great! Not long to go. We are unfortunately in tier 3, and that makes me a little anxious. It’s also made the whole thing seem and feel a bit morbid Sad

How is everyone else getting along, hopefully we’ll hear of lots of exchanges today Grin

This is why I like to do everything via the EA it can turn nasty in the end. It took me 9 long months to complete on my current house but was so worth it. Hang in there it'll be a distant memory soon hopefully

Congrats to those who have made progress.

After a day of absolute hell yesterday trying to keep our completion date of next Friday we are still yet to exchange. Our solicitor told us we needed a week in between so I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that we have lost our moving date. I'm so anxious now, we had to move heaven and earth yesterday to confirm it Angry the solicitor at the bottom of the chain has gone completely AWOL. He has a lot to answer for.

Isn't it just the most ridiculous process known to man? How in this day & age is the system still so so crap?! We haven't exchanged either but a date has now been put forward for mid November so I'm hoping to exchange next week 🧐

NotTodayMaybeTomorrow · 23/10/2020 19:36

@DotTheCaddy I cannot imagine how frustrating that is for you right now. I honestly, before this process, had no idea how difficult purchasing a property is.
I really hope you hear something positive Monday morning.

lachy · 23/10/2020 19:37

Today was a day of progress Grin

Local Authority Searches have been returned, Mortgage Offer received, our survey came back fine, and our buyer has had their survey done today.

Solicitors have said that once they receive the mortgage offer then its a question of getting the last bits done to exchange.

We're getting there...

kerrymucklowe2020 · 23/10/2020 21:19

===== WE ARE IN! ======

NotTodayMaybeTomorrow · 24/10/2020 00:40

@lachy great to see it’s been a good day! Hopefully you’ll be able to exchange soon!

@kerrymucklowe2020 fantastic news! It must be such a relief to finally have your house!

Maybenexttime08 · 24/10/2020 08:14

Can I join - we are waiting to exchange on a new build that should be ready to move in at end November. Mortgage approved after eight weeks but we haven't received the paperwork. Until this arrives our solicitor can't do anything so it is a nervous waiting game.. every day waiting for the postman to arrive! Then we get authority to exchange apparently - no idea how long that takes!! Meanwhile the builders keep applying pressure..!

StrangeCoat · 24/10/2020 09:09

Chain of 3, we're breaking the chain. 12 weeks since offer accepted.

Still not heard anything about dates although everyone is 'ready' as of 2 weeks ago, and it has gone VERY quiet which usually spells disaster!

AmmoniteMum · 25/10/2020 14:34

Well done kerry

NotTodayMaybeTomorrow · 26/10/2020 10:03

@Maybenexttime08 I hate this waiting game, and our post has been a little up and down recently (probably because we are tier 3 Confused)
Hope this week brings some good news!

@StrangeCoat fingers crossed for you

The weather is getting colder and it’s makes the idea of moving less attractive (hoping moving is on the horizon Blush)

DotTheCaddy · 26/10/2020 14:44

We have exchanged!!

Moving in on Friday. Thank goodness!

IndiaMay · 26/10/2020 14:52

Us! We only had our offer accepted and sold in mid august. It's a 2 person chain - buying an empty house and cash buyer buying our house - but I assumed it would take until feb next year at earliest to complete. Last time we bought we were FTB and there was no chain at all. Buying off someone moving in with their Boyfriend and it took 7 months so I didnt enter into this with high hopes for a 2020 move. Theres still various inquiries needing answered so I'm assuming theres months to go yet.

Bells3032 · 26/10/2020 15:35

omg so nearly there. just agreed to hopefully exchange this week and complete on either the 12th or 25th november. Just need their seller to agree a date and we are ready to go (we are chain free and very flexible so totally up to them!)

getting so so close

boredboredboredboredbored · 26/10/2020 15:37

@DotTheCaddy

We have exchanged!!

Moving in on Friday. Thank goodness!

Wooohoooo!!! What a relief it must be! I've not exchanged but we've now set a date of 17th November to hopefully exchange By the end of this week. Buyers popping round Thursday to measure up. Only three of us in our chain so fingers crossed 👍🏻
sparklewater · 26/10/2020 15:40

Exchanged today! It was supposed to happen last Monday and NOTHING has changed since then so who knows what they were all playing at.

Not that I care any more Grin

Bells3032 · 26/10/2020 15:42

@sparklewater Congratulations!!!

What happened is lawyers. it's always the lawyers

sparklewater · 26/10/2020 15:47

@Bells3032 It definitely was! They were having a lovely time lying to everyone about who was being slack and not answering the phone etc. So ridiculous!

NotTodayMaybeTomorrow · 26/10/2020 15:47

@DotTheCaddy fantastic news!!! That must be such a relief!

@sparklewater yes there’s no need to worry about what was going on, at least you’ve exchanged- hooray!

@Bells3032 and @boredboredboredboredbored fingers crossed you both exchange at the dates given.

We are hoping to exchange this week too, and I am super excited (I’ve tried to stop thinking about the house, but who am I kidding-I’ve been imagining living there since offer was accepted 😂)
