Island configuration - pull out bin or pan drawers?

I’m just finalising our island and was dead set on getting a pull out bin but I’m hesitating now!

Our bins currently live in our utility/ pantry and have done so for 7 years with no issue.

Current island configuration includes a 900mm pan drawer plus a 500mm pull out bin. I’m now wondering whether to ditch the bin and go for 800mm and 600mm pan drawers instead to maximise storage.

Would you go for extra storage or a bin?

I’d go for the pan drawers if you still have room in the utility for the bin.

I’d go for drawers. Since you have separate room for the the bin, storage is more important. I use the top drawer for cutlery, etc, 2nd drawer contains plastic unaided tub, that I keep my bread in, then another for biscuits, then stacking ones for batteries and various crap. I hate bread bins, taking up workspace and are usually a pain to clean. Bottom one is used for pots and pans.

Plastic unaided, should read plastic un lidded

If you're happy with bins being somewhere else, then 100% more drawers. I love my pan drawers and wish I'd got another set at the other side of our island instead of cupboards.

I'd go for the bin. You can store extra pans in the utility - you don't use them every day. You use your bin every day.

I got this one with an internal small drawer that I use for keeping bin bags and other food bags and similar sundries in. Can open the unit and just sweep any waste into it. I use the back one for recycling bottles, cans and plastics and there is also a shelf above the bin and below the drawer where cardboard recycling goes.

bin unit

Definitely pan drawers. I'd love to be able to put my bin out of the way.

Thanks all, pan drawers it is. Our pans are mostly on an overhead rack so the drawers will be for crockery and other ‘stuff’ 😂
