Smelly shower drain

We have just completed on a property that had been empty for 18 months. We ran all of the water for a decent length of time and all is well, except for the shower. I have cleaned all of the external drain traps 🤢 put bleach down and run the shower, but the smell is still terrible.

Does anyone have any ideas of what else we can try to get rid of the stench.

We had a similar problem with our shower drain and it turns out you need a shower dip tube which keeps the sewage smell out. We rang a plumber about it and it turns out DH had removed it thinking it didn’t do anything! The pipe from our shower joins the sewage pipe.

All sinks , baths etc should have a trap on them to stop smells coming back in ( that’s what the water in the bottom of the toilet is for ) .

Try a couple of bottles of mr muscle drain unblocker down it and leave it for a bit longer than the bottle says.

Is it definitely the shower trap as our bathroom smelt really bad when the floorboards got wet and rotted 🤮 ?

I think it is the shower trap. Have put a foaming drain cleaner down and left it for two hours. Then flushed it down and put the trap (which I took out to clean as it was 🤮) back in and flushed that down again and it is smelling much better now.

Thanks for the advice.

The foam stuff is ok for U bends , if you have any more problems try the gel one , it will shift more stubborn gunk.
Don't leave it for much longer than it says on the bottle 👍
