Moved out owned flat but buyers don't have keys yet - last meter readings

Hi all, we have been in a rental for a couple of weeks now and my old flat remains empty due to the buyer's lender needing another survey. So everything is sorted now and we finally have a completion date/handing over keys but it's not for over a week yet.

I'd had to cancel my original "move out" date with my energy company but now everything is sorted what date should I put? The day before the buyer gets the keys? I'm confused. We're also going to my solicitor's next week to sign some papers and I'm not sure if she's expecting the keys then? But if I did that would it mean I wouldn't get final meter readings?! Thanks.

I would have photographed the meters in any case, but can you not them to read the meters now?

The heating, water and gas isn't being used. Just take photos, if you haven't already and tell the utility companies the date you are no longer the owner. The bill will be much the same, bar a few pence standing charge. Not worth the headspace.

I cancelled all my utilities, council tax and insurance, on completion day. There's a good App called Timestamp, photos of the electric meter etc with it on can be used as legal evidence if ever required.

I believe you leave the keys with your estate agent for the buyer to collect once completion has occurred, the solicitor should phone the EA to confirm.

Thanks everyone! I'll just need to collect my stepladders once I've taken the final readings and then give my solicitor the keys.
