Never happened but I'm so worried about it happening that I never close the door fully 🙈 is someone else home with you?

FiveShelties · 16/10/2020 08:35

Lucky you had your phone.

We had a 1930s door lock fail when a visiting child used it. Only a loo, got the kid to sit on the cistern and cover their face and kicked the door open. It did repair OK (and we removed the lock!!)

Luckily my husband is on the other side keeping me company

Is it an actual lock that's broken or is it the door handle not opening the door? If it's the latter then you can try poking at the latch with a knife or something.

gamerchick · 16/10/2020 09:41

What's not working on the door though? The locks jammed or the handles knackered? Can husband take the handle off to have a look. It could be an easy fix if it's just the handle.

Sexnotgender · 16/10/2020 09:41

Can you post a picture of the lock?

LtGreggs · 16/10/2020 09:42

If it's that the handle won't turn the latch, easy fix is to unscrew handle & turn manually.

ToelessPobble · 16/10/2020 09:46

Presume you have tried oil in the lock?

LittleMissLockdown · 16/10/2020 09:49

If your husband is there surely between the 2 of you, you could get the door open?

Has he tried taking the handle off? It could be a simple fix and save you a fortune in getting the emergency locksmith in.

AriettyHomily · 16/10/2020 09:52

Can he not take the handle / lock off from the other side?

MrsTwentyEight · 16/10/2020 13:00

Sorry had to rush off to work
But thanks a lot for the replies everyone!
Got the locksmith in (£85!!)

So what was wrong with it?

MrsTwentyEight · 16/10/2020 19:08

@gamerchick not sure how to explain it but the handle was disconnected from the bit that goes into the wall. So it was stuck to the wall despite me moving the handle up and down if that makes any sense....

We tried taking the handle off from the outside but with no luck! -_-
