Renting but previous home not yet exchanged - council tax etc

We're in rented accommodation just now but my old flat is lying empty while we await survey results for the buyer's lender so they can get their mortgage and I can give them the keys. Was supposed to give them the keys last week but don't know when this is happening now.

So basically I own somewhere and am renting too. Council tax etc is still on the other place but I'm not sure if I need to declare anything about having 2 addresses although we're living here not there) as it should hopefully be resolved soon and I'm changing my address over at various places. What about energy supplier, can I have the same company supplying both places?

Anyone got any advice? Thanks.

We lived in one place and had an empty property after our tenant moved out and were selling it. We notified all service providers that the property was empty and gave the address of where we were living. They just sent us a final bill when we sold. The council tax is still payable and your responsibility until you have completed. It's all very simple to do. You do need to keep insurance on the empty property and declare that it is unoccupied. Hope this helps

Thank you! I phoned the council and they told me that I'd get a reduction in the unoccupied property as I'd moved, just need to let them know when the buyer gets the keys.
