Hi
I’m planning to move to Bishops Stortford from East London next year. The secondary schools are oversubscribed.. think birchwood seems the friendliest although not highly academic. BS High were not interested probably as they are oversubscribed. I have a DS who will go into year 10 and a DD who will be in sixth form. Please could anyone give any advice? Also will it be easy to make friends? I want a quieter less stressful life hence the move but worried about how convenient it will be. I work in the city too. Any advice would be greatly appreciated x

The LA will be legally obliged to find places for your children. If none are available locally or in your preferred schools, you’ll be offered a place further afield. I think the cost of commuting to school will be paid for if over a certain distance.

Tbh, the timing for your move is bad and it would be much easier to wait for your son to finish his GCSEs if you’re happy with where he currently is.

No advice on schools as I don’t have kids, but I moved from East London to Bishop’s Stortford several years ago. I joined a ladies sports club and made lots of friends. It’s generally a very sociable town with nice people. I didn’t own a car at the time, and as I lived close enough to the centre everything was walking distance including 3 large supermarkets and the high street. Fast trains 22 min to Tottenham and 35 to Liverpool st. Best decision I ever made. I live elsewhere now but stayed local as I love the area.

Thanks - it does seem like a nice town and I like the vibe. Will delay moving there until my son had finished gcses I think
