Hi,

I have just started an upholstery business - I have to quote for two window seat box cushions and recovering 8 dining chairs.

Materials I can do, but how much for labour?

Have anyone recently (last 2 years) had a quote for this sort of thing please?

Thanks Smile

Your hourly rate x how many hours it will take?

£10 would be a good minimum hourly charge - more if it's a difficult job.

You also need to factor in planning and sourcing all the materials (unless the customer will be providing them).

If I was the customer I would like the estimate broken down a little so a price for the cushions and a price for the recovering chairs. Possibly a charge for the main material separately too. For example if it's £30 per meter it will look more honest to the customer.

Will you have to collect the chairs and deliver them back? Petrol?

Ask for a deposit (50% is good) when customer confirms that they are willing to go ahead.

Good luck!

Thank you that is brilliantly helpful! I am off to do some calculations...

We paid £120 when we got a window seat box cushion (decent quality with buttons on) about 4 years ago. This is SE, commuter belt but not London.
