Thinking of moving to shropshire, have been there lots of times but not to every town.Shrewsbury nice but a bit too big.Was thinking of a market town, I notice towns in the north of the county are cheaper, but I dont know many of these, attracted by lovely countryside on the doorstep, anyone recommend anywhere

Newport in Shropshire is lovely and very good schools

I lived in Bridgnorth for many years. It's a lovely market town with a lot of history, good amenities' and great countryside nearby. Easy access to bigger towns too.

Newport- I grew up here. Lovely! I also rate Bridgnorth- lovely market town but with a more rural feel.

thanks for the advice so far, I look forward to looking at those places.I no longer need to worry about schooling.I am an 'empty nester' now both children at Uni.And husband semi retired(ex police insp) loves hill walking and choirs, anymore recommendations much appreciated. We have a big dog aswell, she would love this.Been living in a market town in south lincs that has become too busy, and need to escape the rooftops as I am a fifty something!

Church Stretton is beautiful and with wonderful access to dog walking areas.

Oswestry is very friendly and laid back according to a friend of mine.

I live in Shropshire, Church stretton is really lovely and I have always said I would love to live there. Have always heard great things about Bridgnorth too, visited a couple times but can't quite remember too much.

Oswestry is the answer. Very nice small border town with cheap prices for housing, especially if you go for the villages around the area. I grew up there and semi retired there after working and living away ( Essex and Suffolk) for 30 years. Church Stretton, Bridgenorth etc is more expensive but very pretty. If you want value for money then North Shropshire is your best bet. Look at villages such as Llanymynech- 4 miles from Oswestry but half in Shropshire and half in Wales. Great dog walking.

As no need to worry about schools, have a look at church stretton or Ludlow

Definitely Oswestry! I live over the border in Wales but Oswestry is my closest town. I love it :)
