Do agents call each other to check offers?

Had on offer on our house in the last few days which we accepted, and this morning we put an offer in on the house we like. The agent for the house we like asked me who our agent is and who in particular is dealing with our sale. I told her but it later struck me as odd.

Do agents ring each other to check what you’ve said about having an offer on your property is true then? I’m not worried about it, as what I said is true but it made me wonder if that’s what they did and if so it surprises me that our agent would be able to provide that information to a third party. As I said, I’m not bothered either way, just curious I guess. Anyone have experience of this?

Surely its just so that they can liaise and communicate with them, bearing in mind there's a chain.

Exactly.

Our estate agent checked to ensure our buyers were 'proceedable' as she put it. That included checking they had sufficient funds and where they were at with their sale. Never thought about it, but I guess some of that info may have come from the other EA.

They did the same for us. in fact they didn't respond to our offer until they had had a chat with our EA to confirm sale of our house.

Thanks. It’s good that they are doing some due diligence. Getting basic information about the position of the person who made the offer on ours was like pulling teeth with our agent!

They'd probably be able to work out who your agent was from Rightmove even if you didn't tell them.

Yes, it is common place for the selling agent to call the buyers agent to double check that they are under offer .

Well, we put an offer in an a house. We were renting, so no sale involved.

We got no response from that seller, so the following weekend, we phoned another agent to arrange a different viewing.

20 mins later, he phoned to ask why we were still looking since we had already put an offer on a house!... So he knew enough to know that but not to know that that seller hadn't responded! Odd.

But tell you what, within the hour the original vendor had begun to engage with us! Presumably because he (correctly) discovered we'd walked due to no response!

But it was rather odd.

Very common - the EA on my purchase phoned the EA on my sale to confirm that I wasn't a complete fantasist and my house/sale did exist before my vendor accepted my offer. Equally I got to see proof that my buyer who was a cash buyer had the funds he claimed he did.its just part of due diligence.

Yes the EA of the house we bought phoned our EA to check we had indeed sold and the chain was very short/simple, before advising our vendors to accept our offer. :)
