Homeserve /British gas boiler cover

Hi, can anyone please recommend an alternative to me? I'd been with homeserve for years but they've recently recruited vile contractors called Right Gas. The engineers are so aggressive, crooked and rude it's unreal. Not paying for them to enter my house again. Was left shaking by the way I was bellowed at because I didn't know what a burner gasket was.

If I switch to British gas, what are they like in terms of booking an appointment within reasonable time? Dealing with drains, plumbing, leaks, floods etc?

Are they really expensive and do they "write off" boilers when there's nothing wrong with them?
Any other companies?
I was paying around 36 a month for boiler, electricity, plumbing and drainage.

Thank you

We use Domestic and general for £17 a month. Covers boiler, annual check. Cant think if it includes anything else but seems fine to me.

I flick between BG and Hometree - depends who is doing better offer neither seem to reward loyalty though so I do switch - Hometree often do introductory offers so do google promotions for them and BG were running an offer recently which I took where you got a £75 voucher you could choose supermarkets, Argos, Amazon etc. Would NEVER go to Homeserve have often heard bad stories.

Oh sorry with BG I have always had same service although that was pre-Covid. I re-joined them last week and my boiler service appointment was a month away earliest but in terms of drains/blocked loos etc always been same day usually teatime but still ok. Never had to call out Hometree but they do use local contractors not their own employees - had a boiler service with them and the chap was great.

Oh this is really helpful! Many thanks for your replies everyone. I'll give both hometree and bg a ring to see what they say.

I also found Homeserve unbelievably shonky and unprofessional. Full of excuses not to come out and do a service, not to do a proper job etc. Cancelled the contract after a couple of years. I pay BT to do one off servicing , can’t be bothered taking out insurance schemes. Boiler is still fairly young.

Not BT, BG!

Thought so. Homeserve really are going down the pan.... Thank you
