Wooden Worktops and Stains

We are considering getting a wooden worktop and have read quite a lot of threads on here about them, but I have a couple of specific questions that I haven't read about... If you treat with and oil (looking at www.osmouk.com/sitechaptern.cfm?bookid=Products&chapter=82&page=255#TopOil - which seems highly recommended) then, for example, spilt some wine or curry, then immediately wiped it, would it stain? If you did stain it with something like wine or beetroot, would it be salvageable by sanding and re-treating?

If it has had enough treatments of the oil is should not stain. Any liquid should bead on top of the oil. You do need to clean up any spills though or you may be left with damp penetrating the wood.
Providing it’s solid wood as opposed to a wooden veneer you can sand with very fine sandpaper and treat again, but keep in mind that until the ‘fresh’ patch has had several treatments it may be a lighter patch than the rest.

I had a wooden worktop and island top and the pp is right, spills bead on top giving you the opportunity to wipe up. We had it for about 3 years and it looked lovely (never needed to sand back & re-treat) except for around the sink. I was careful, wiped up, no draining etc and it still discoloured there (black spots). We also had a bathroom basin sitting on an oak cabinet and the same thing happened. I'd have it for an island again but not for my main 'working' worktop.

Osmo is quite stain proof but it can be sanded and touched up if needed. I painted some shelves in the white version, where I stored all my oils and sauces and the drips never stained.

I use that exact oil on my wooden worktops (the satin one) and two years later they’ve held up great - nothing has stained so far and I cook a lot. I know some people dislike wooden worktops, and I appreciate it’s more fiddly to be sure to wipe up water etc, but I love them and I’d have them again if I did up another kitchen.

I have a wooden worktop and so far no stains.

I obsessionally Osmo Oiled it to start with - could do with it again TBH, ideally once a month. I also wipe up after any spills but honestly DH doesn't as he has reduced vision so can't see some of them.

I have massive trivets for putting hot pans down.

And if all else fails the whole thing can be sanded and start again - there are some v reassuring youtube videos of completely trashed looking wooden worktops coming up like new after a professional sand down.
