Holiday cottage without bath?

Thunderbolted · 17/09/2020 08:17

We're thinking of buying a holiday cottage to let out as a business. I'm looking at one with just a shower and no bath. Personally I find this offputing but wondered what others thought.

How big is it? We've stayed in some very nice cottages for two which had big, walk in luxury showers - they were great. If you're aiming at the family market (so more than one bedroom), then I don't think you can go for the top end of the market.

GolightlyMrsGolightly · 17/09/2020 08:24

How many bedrooms?

Ragwort · 17/09/2020 08:25

Personally it would put me off, I do like a bath every night - but lots of people only use showers .

NastyBlouse · 17/09/2020 08:25

Yeah I'd pass on that I'm afraid. A good soak on holiday is one of my favourite things.

LouiseNW · 17/09/2020 08:26

We need a bath at the end of a long day, back problem, hot bath makes it a bit more tolerable next day. It would stop us from booking, however lovely the house was.

SherryPalmer · 17/09/2020 08:26

It’s annoying but not enough to put me off if otherwise good.

Holyrivolli · 17/09/2020 08:27

Many people wouldn’t care about not having a bath and would actually be much happier with a proper shower rather than one of these over the bath type ones. Don’t target families with v young children and make clear in the advert.

perfumeistooexpensive · 17/09/2020 08:32

Definitely wouldn't stay in it. You reduce your letting capacity a lot unless you offer both bath and shower.

sitckmansladylove · 17/09/2020 08:36

It wouldn't matter to us.

Murmurur · 17/09/2020 08:38

Bluestone has some properties without a bath. We have stayed in them, even with toddlers, and obviously other people do too, but it was a compromise we made to save money. I would say it's tolerable if something else can make up for it (amazing location, cheaper etc) but on its own, yes it would be off-putting.

blue25 · 17/09/2020 08:38

I’d want a bath. A long soak after a day out is important to me.

Thunderbolted · 17/09/2020 08:39

It's 3 bed which isn't a great balance. Only 1 bathroom with no additional toilet.

I think it depends on both the size of house and the location. It wouldn’t work for people with very young kids and if it’s somewhere like the Lake District where people are doing long walks even many couples will want a bath to relax their muscles.

But also, you’re going to OWN the house. If it doesn’t have a bath and you want it to have one, get one put in.

Thunderbolted · 17/09/2020 08:39

Great location which is why we're considering it.

Have never used the bath in a hotel/ holiday cottage except one where it was see through, had jacuzzi bubbles and ozone just for the novelty factor.

Loads of people can't be doing with the faff.

Thunderbolted · 17/09/2020 08:41

I'm not personally planning on staying in it but it would put me off! Location is Yorkshire Dales.

RandomMess · 17/09/2020 08:42

I prefer showers so if it had no shower I wouldn't book it.

In fact if it had a bath it would put me off as someone would hog the lone bathroom having a bath!!

A large shower with a large baby bath available to go on the bottom for young children would be fine for most families. That's what we had at home when we took the bath out. We moved and now have 3 toilets so when someone has a 2 hour bath it's not an issue!

Itsokthanks · 17/09/2020 08:43

Wouldn't bother me. We don't have a bath at home and I only had one bath during our two week holiday. Just make sure the shower is a decent one!

Spidey66 · 17/09/2020 08:43

Wouldn’t bother me but I prefer a shower.

RandomMess · 17/09/2020 08:43

So who is the target market?

Walking groups or families? Is it currently a holiday rental surely you can ask about occupancy for the last few years?

AntiHop · 17/09/2020 08:44

3 beds with just a shower and only one toilet is not a good balance imho.

Interestingly, we often go on holiday to Greece, and holiday houses with baths are rare. Our dd hated showers when she was younger so showe time was a battle.

SoloMummy · 17/09/2020 08:47

At home, we bath.
On holiday we shower. Out of 20 of us that often holiday with one another, there's only one couple who'd prefer to bath their child.
So for us, a bath and no shower would be an issue.
I would have thought that if the cottage has more than one bedroom that it's aiming at families market predominantly, so actually shower would be selling point.

SquirrelScorn · 17/09/2020 08:48

Why can’t you just get a bath put in?

WildAboutMyPlanet · 17/09/2020 08:48

I know someone who has a holiday home. There is no bath, just two showers. It’s booked out most of the time and no one has complained about the bath at all. I don’t think that many people care.

SoloMummy · 17/09/2020 08:49

@Thunderbolted

It's 3 bed which isn't a great balance. Only 1 bathroom with no additional toilet.
With 3 bed though you're unlikely to get 6 adults staying there, unless they're really large bedrooms to make this an issue. It sounds like a family market so I don't think that's an issue.... If it were double rooms and able to cater for more than 4 or 5,then I agree.
