Holiday cottage without bath?

We're thinking of buying a holiday cottage to let out as a business. I'm looking at one with just a shower and no bath. Personally I find this offputing but wondered what others thought.

Reading your subsequent posts, wouldn’t even find your cottage I’m afraid because only 1 loo for 3 bedrooms would filter it out of my search. You really need to address that, or find another house.

Thunderbolted · 17/09/2020 08:53

I think it might be possible to put in a downstairs toilet. No room to put in a further bathroom without compromising bedrooms. It's 2 double, 1 single. If it was my house I'd convert the single to an amazing bathroom but then I do love baths!

It wouldn't bother me at all now my dc are 5 and 6, I suppose to might have when they were little but not enough to put me off if everything else was good. One toilet wouldn't bother me either, I've never lived in a house with more than one!

Neolara · 17/09/2020 08:54

I wouldn't book a holiday cottage that only had a bath and no shower. I prefer showers and wouldn't care about not having a bath.

CatSmith · 17/09/2020 08:55

It wouldn’t put me off.

VaggieMight · 17/09/2020 08:57

The only time I've used the bath in a rental is when the bath was in the bedroom with a lovely view, just for the novelty.

HelpMeh · 17/09/2020 08:58

The shower wouldn't bother me, but I would never book a place with only one bathroom and toilet between three bedrooms.

averythinline · 17/09/2020 08:58

Would put me off dc hate showers...and we like baths after a walk so I would pass...

SingingInTheShithouse · 17/09/2020 08:59

I've just been looking for a holiday let for DD & her BF for a birthday gift. One of her stipulations was a good shower, preferably wet room & no bath.

I like a bath due to reasons mentioned above by others, but not having a bath, but only a good shower really wouldn't put me off a holiday let if it had plenty else going for it compared to others in the area

Thunderbolted · 17/09/2020 09:01

There might be room in one of the bigger bedrooms for a bath. Would that be too weird?

Imicola · 17/09/2020 09:09

Wouldn't have bothered me pre DC, but wouldn't book it now I have a toddler, so perhaps depends what type of guests you are aiming for.

wintertime6 · 17/09/2020 09:14

It would put me off because I have young children and so really need a bath. I might stay for a few nights if it was a nice house and location but wouldn't see us staying for a week or more as a family if there wasn't a bath.

GameSetMatch · 17/09/2020 09:22

I wouldn’t book one without a bath, I love a relaxing soak and it would be too hard to shower the kids everyday for a week.

movingonup20 · 17/09/2020 09:52

Wouldn't bother me, it's years since I've had a bath! But might put off those with kids under 6 or so

movingonup20 · 17/09/2020 09:56

I would put bunk beds in the single and double beds in the other rooms, we often holidayed with my parents, even when the kids were teens. Would be perfect. But out of peak season it might be attractive to two couples too. Does it have a log burner, that's far more important for year round letting!

muddledmidget · 17/09/2020 10:00

It depends if you're going luxury holiday lettings or budget, I don't think you can go middle of the price range with 3 beds and only one shower room. For luxury I'd have 2 doubles with zip link single beds and good mattress topper for then they're zipped together and put another bathroom in so you're 2 doubles and 2 bathrooms and able to accommodate 2 couples or a couple with 2 kids.

For budget, you can leave it is as it is and they can work it out!

FranklyImCringeing · 17/09/2020 10:01

I love a bath, especially after a long walk. Given the location of the property, on that basis I'd only book a holiday cottage with a bath.

Oldbutkicking · 17/09/2020 10:58

One bathroom to three bedrooms is a complete no-no. We stay in holiday cottages a lot. Unless you can make major changes, this is unworkable for hirers.

Zenithbear · 17/09/2020 11:00

A good Shower is much more preferable for us.

snowspider · 17/09/2020 11:33

I would say make the small bedroom into a bathroom, and aim at small families and couples. Also log burner.

GolightlyMrsGolightly · 17/09/2020 11:37

I think you need to work out who your market is. If it's posh weeks away for 2 couples then turn 3rd bedroom into bathroom. If it's a family market put a loo in downstairs. Would families want a bath in a bedroom - probably not - but I might on a romantic break....

Lindy2 · 17/09/2020 11:39

DH wouldn't be bothered as he prefers a shower. I would probably be put off a bit though.

For me though it would also depend on where your cottage is and the type of holiday.

If it's in a location where it's likely to be a summer beach holiday then actually just a shower is fine. I prefer a shower if I'm trying to wash a load of sand off.

If it's somewhere like the Lakes where people go all year round and do lots of walking, then I need a bath to soak and relax in after a hike.

imdonenow · 17/09/2020 11:42

Showers for me and dc. It's easier to shower children imo as they just stand there and I spray them with the shower head and out they go, instead of chucking them to sit in a bath tub where I have to bend etc splashing water everywhere. The shower though has to be a large like the ones in nice hotels not like the tiny ones you get like the size of a airplane toilet where you can't bend down or turn etc.

Livingthecovidaloca · 17/09/2020 11:42

I’d rather a really good walk in shower and no bath, rather than a bath with a rubbish shower of it, and a flimsy shower curtain.

weepingwillow22 · 17/09/2020 11:43

What about a hot tub in the garden? They seem to be popular for a lot of holiday renrals.
