Stacking Washing Machine and Dryer in New Kitchen

We have offered on a house that needs quite a bit of renovation one part being a new kitchen.

It is a small kitchen and we want quite a lot in it! Has anyone stacked a washing machine and dryer and then had kitchen doors to cover them up? Currently we have a washer/dryer but I hate it. It takes forever to do washing, it has already broken once and separates just make life so much easier. The problem is I also want a dishwasher so the only way to fit them in is to have them stacking. Is it easy to do?

Yes, we had a washer and dryer stacked in our last house. I think you can buy a thing that joins them together stacked, but ours were different makes and we never had any problems.

Thanks Graffiti, did you have them in a cupboard to hide them? Did you just buy normal kitchen cupboard doors?

Make sure you look at how much space they need around them and any ventilation issues.

I would want to put them in a cupboard to hide them, but you need to be able to leave the washing machine door open to avoid mould so you need a decent space in front of it and probably some ventilation in the door.

Alternatively, is there another place you could put the washer and dryer? A bathroom maybe?

She has a nice kitchen and has a washing machine and boiler behind full height doors. But the way she has done it could just as easily be a washing machine and drier.

You'll have to scroll back but it's a good example.

Our washing machine and tumble drier are in the utility room but the drier is stacked on top of the washing machine. There’s a piece of standard kitchen worktop separating them, so the tumble drier is actually standing on the workshop rather than directly on the washing machine.

MIL has her fridge stacked on top of her washing machine in the kitchen, disguised by a door. The door is often left slightly open for ventilation though, as also mentioned by a PP.

You can put them in a cupboard and buy a thing to divide them in the middle, in a previous house, I had a shelf that I could pull out of the middle part to sort the washing on.

Thanks for all the help. I dont think they can go elsewhere, but at least they are able to go in the cupboard. I just really want a dryer and a dishwasher and this is the only way but maybe I am cramming too much in to a small kitchen.

My dryer sit in top of the washer (in a utility room.) we recently stayed in a holiday place that had a then stacked but a bit in the middle with a fold out ironing board - genius!

I have a washer and dryer stacked with a stacking kit with pull out shelf (highly recommend this).

Your issue is going to be fitting a washing machine in a standard depth cupboard. You may need to look for an integrated washing machine. There’s a helpful article here about the measurements - a standard freestanding washing machine won’t fit in a standard kitchen cabinet.

There aren’t many integrated (ie less deep) dryers OP but there are a few
eg these two

We have them stacked using a cheap stacking kit from curries or somewhere similar. There is a pullout shelf between the two to stand the basket on. We don't have them in cupboards though.

We had them stacked (no special kit, just stuck the dryer on top). They weren't in a premade kitchen cupboard, we had a slightly deeper frame built and put kitchen doors on it. It worked really well
