Karndean flooring

Can we put Karndean in the kitchen; the problem being two golden retrievers who slobber more water than they drink, and occasionally have upset stomachs. Daytime is not so much of a problem, as we clean up as soon as we see a spill, but if something happens during the night, it could be there till morning. Does anyone have experience of how Karndean copes with this?

Also, I want to put Karndean on the stairs. Our current carpet on the stairs and landing is always covered in blond dog hair which is a nightmare to vacuum. Has anyone done this?

I can't comment re stairs, but we have it in our kitchen and until last autumn had a very elderly Labrador and cat. We also have two small children. Loads of water spills, and a variety of biological matter. It's been brilliant, no issues at all.

LVT flooring is perfect for a kitchen. I wouldn't put it on stairs as you'll need some sort of stair nosings fitting and it'll look like something you find in a commercial building rather than a home. I'd put a stair gate on and stop the dogs going upstairs.

Well our Karndean in the bathroom has coped with 6 years of teenage DD: make-up, hair dye, vomit, blood, bathwater, sweat, deodorant and tears!
I think it could deal with a couple of dogs..

We have Amtico in kitchen and utility and it’s excellent. Only issue is we have lunatic cats that chase each other round so it has scratched but not really noticeable.

I really rate Karndean, we had it in our old house. We didn’t put it in this house because it actually needs quite a lot of prep to the floor (the floor prep is what makes a difference between a great finish and a shit look). The floors here were just too awkward so we went with ceramic tiles and electric underfloor - that was cheaper in the end.

We don’t have pets but I found it extremely hard wearing and easy to clean. It’s also possible to replace individual tiles so if there were a big issue that could be done quite easily by the fitter.

I wouldn’t put karndean on stairs for reasons mentioned above - it’s going to look like a commercial building. I also don’t think I would use it upstairs (bathrooms excepted).

We have Karndean all through downstairs, and water damage isn't an issue at all in the 12 years we've had it. We have dog bowls, cat bowls, washing the floor, and foster puppies so lots of little puddles and cleaning that up

FWIW, I think Karndean and Amtico are probably quite interchangeable in terms of quality. You need a registered fitter for either of those.

I don’t have any experience with lower priced LVT, but tbh Karndean isn’t that expensive per square metre anyway, it’s the preparation screeds and fitting that cost.

Also putting a word in for Moduleo here - same stuff as Amtico or Karndean and we have had it in two houses now - kitchen, hall, bathrooms and living room - with a mucky dog, and I would recommend it.

We are having Karndean BECAUSE of the dog.

What do you put on the stairs instead of carpet? I have to literally brush the carpet with a rubber brush before the hoover can shift the dog hair.
