Who do I call if I want to build a sort of outdoor terrace?

I have a first-floor flat with stairs going down to the private garden. The door opens from the kitchen.

The stairs are really rickety and I'd like to replace them with something more sturdy. I'd also like to put in a seating area outside at the top of the stairs, sort of like a balcony I guess. I have no idea who to call though to ask for a quote. Any ideas?

Steel fabricators? But check re planning permission. Just google outside stairs and balcony for a company near you.

Sounds exactly like my old flat. It's a great idea and it's something I'd considered. Will it cast a shadow for your neighbour ?

It will need planning permission.

You’re basically adding a balcony so you’d need to look into planning permission.

Planning permission needed definitely. Building regs need to be met too.

A general builder should be fine for giving quotes.

If you want help doing the planning application and designing for building regs then find a local architect. They do small jobs like this as well as big jobs.
