Hardwood or MDF shutters

I’ve had a quote and the hardwood is about 50% more. They’re going to bring me some samples, but I wondered if anyone knew if anyone knew what the benefits of hardwood are? Is it just appearance?

I think it will be stronger and less liable to damage by damp. If damaged, it could be repaired. Being stronger, the flaps could be made thinner, or shaped into blades.

If you're going to paint them, it may not matter. If stained or varnished, MDF is unsuitable.

If you expect them to last for many years, hardwood is preferable.
