Monstrosity in neighbour garden

Just that really.

Not sure what it is, double height extends beyond boundary on access path. Primary construction wood with a random ensemble of materials.

All the neighbours complain. Is there anyone likely to be interested in ending our misery and making them at least keep it confined within their foot print and ensuring that it is in keeping with local regulations. My sense is that councils are too busy, limited resources aka not interested. If that’s not the case what department should it be reported to? and is the council likely to take some form of proper action?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Gosh that sounds dangerous. Anyone going about their lawful business could accidentally bump into it and bring the whole thing crashing down ...

MUM, Such a level of self awareness confirms you are definitely not my NDN.

I can’t quite imagine what this looks like or where it would be situated on their land so as to overhang a boundary. But from experience, the council will be more interested in it from a health and safety and environmental health perspective if several neighbours make the same complaint than they would be from a planning one. You need to reinforce that it overhangs an access path and is an unstable construction and could therefore pose a liability to passers by.

Planning Enforcment Officer at your local Council as a starting point. Depending on what it will be used for, maybe Building Control as well.

There may be a delay in someone visiting your neighbour at the moment, but they will come out eventually.

So what is it then?

Honestly, what exactly it is, no one can quite describe it. It is double height, and probably helps in this instance - as it’s probably a definite no no for this reason alone. Built straddling the back boundary, and clearly not sound. Made from all random stuff put together in an adhoc fashion. Won’t post a pic due to its ‘uniqueness’, and identifying.

Shed? Extension made out of old pallets? Home office? Play equipment for kids? Barn?

They all require planning approval by the sounds of it, and some need building control. Plus there is a potential trespass issue on the path (who owns the path?).

So there are three avenues there. Plus health and safety too if it's dangerous.

Extension with old pallets for adults is the closest description.

Definitely not art. Appreciate that everyone has different taste but that is stretch too far for the average imagination.

Given that you’ve ruled out some kind of Turner Prize art project, have you contacted Building Control at your local council?

If its a load of random crap on a footpath can't you report them for fly tipping?

Would love to but that would definitely be identifying. Also, don’t want to cause any neighbourly issues beyond getting them to confine such monstrosity’s within their property and land, and not posing a risk to others using the pathway. Also, if the height is deemed an issue, and is addressed, it would probably mean it’s not such an eyesore generally.

Definitely not, this is a labour of love that keeps getting higher and deeper over a period of time. If I thought it be gone by 5th November I would not take issue with it. Its here to stay, for the long haul.
