Buying a Used Kitchen ?

Has anyone ever bought an entirely used kitchen, rather than new ? Do they look ok when refitted or is best just to buy new ? I could never afford a premium kitchen normally, but found usedkitchenexchange.co.uk whilst researching and there are a (small) number of kitchens featured that my meagre budget could stretch too (incl transport and fitting) but will it look awful once it's in ?!

It’s all about the quality.

If you get a second hand Clive Christian kitchen, it’ll look incredible. If you go for a second hand IKEA kitchen then it probably wont look as good.

We bought an ex kitchen display kitchen from a high end store, along with appliances. It cost less than the appliances alone which (other than the quooker and fridge) were unused. The kitchen was solid Leicht and a range still sold. We were rebuilding the kitchen space so could position walls where they were needed to accommodate it all.

Best thing we ever did.

@didireallysaythat I'm the same - currently building an extension and can configure it to suit kitchen. May I ask where you purchased yours ?

@PerfidiousAlbion I won't be able to stretch to one of those, but not quite IKEA either. Im after a nicely finished German!

@ChilliBeanSauce from eBay - search ex display kitchens and there are lots there. We bought via a third party who specialised in selling on display kitchens - they were also able to organise a removal company for us (warning high quality German kitchens are heavy and definitely not flat pack). We did go and see the kitchen in the shop before it was removed, and spoke to the shop about getting one or two extra cabinets in the same range. In the end we got these from a different kitchen shop (logistically easier for us). Our kitchen is a combo of two, well matched ranges, and because the shop needed to show off all the details, we have the nice sorting bins, drawer inserts etc.

I agree re ex display. Try seeing if there's a Baulthaup showroom near you.

I have a Howdens kitchen currently for sale on eBay. The kitchen itself if I'm really good nick. We've chucked in all the appliances as well as most need fixing in some way.

I am not against the idea at all but I would worry about the hinges, drawer runners etc. If they are quality then I would happily

We nearly did this with a high end German kitchen but couldn't quite reconfigure the kitchen properly to our space. I would only do this with a high end kitchen, there are fantastic discounts if you can find the right one. And only directly from the company. I would not, unless on a very tight budget, want to buy someone's second hand flat pack. I was also looking at ones that have been used in an exhibition too, so they've only been up for a week or two, but I guess there are much less of those available this year!

We sold our kitchen to a friend of a friend who removed and transported it. We paid to have the gas hob disconnected. It was 8 years old and in pretty good condition. Included was built in fridge freezer, oven, built in dishwasher, gas hob double sink, waste disposal. Worktops were 3cm quartz but too heavy to get down the stairs. We charged them £500. I'm guessing it was put in at a cost of at least 10k 8 years ago.
