Colour advice for kitchen revamp?

I hate my kitchen. Long term plan is to knock it down and extend; short term I am thinking a quick, cheap facelift to tide us over.

Thinking I'll paint the cupboards with Frenchic paint and redo the flooring (crap laminate), but leave the worktops and tiles if I can.

Worktop is dark cream/light beige laminate
Tiles are darker beige.

Don't like them much but if new colours can lift them I'll be happy to wait.

Cabinets are currently light blue, painted over original laminate. Walls are magnolia. I'd been thinking of painting them white but not committed. The whole kitchen is pretty dark.

I am USELESS with home style! Any advice appreciated...

When do you think you'll do the new kitchen?

A year or two - there's a few more urgent jobs to do first so we can't go for it now.

How is the paint holding up on the laminate doors?

I haven't used the paint you said, but I've used a lot of Annie Sloan & I love it.

New laminate will improve the room no end and pretty cheaply if you remember it's a temporary fix so doesn't need to be top of the line!

'Inbetween' kitchens I removed all the wall tiles (very therapeutic) rather than paint them.

If you're keeping the cream/beige worktops i wouldn't go with white for the walls or cabinets as I think it'll make them look old/dirty.

Trouble is I like white/ckear colours and really nothing that goes with cream/beige, so I'd struggle.

But if it's only a temporary fix, I'd be tempted to go with something fun, that I'd never dream of having in a proper kitchen.

I'm exactly the same - what I really want, long term, is white walls and grey cabinets.

Thinking something mad like patterned tile lino and sage green cupboards just as an experiment!
