How to cover a decked area?

Hi all,

We are moving into a house without a garden per se, but it has a smallish decked area. We were hoping to use this area as an outdoor dining area, by adding metal dining table and chairs, a patio heater and finding some form of cover for the top to keep all forms of precipitation/howling wind away.

This decked area leads immediately to a back door and is fenced around, but we need to find something to cover to fit the whole area. dh is quite tall (6ft6) so sadly the fence is too short to just attach some sort of covering directly to the top! It would need to be some sort of adjustable large gazebo that we could attach to the fence.

Any ideas of what sort of material we could use to facilitate this?

Thanks in advance!

Can you attach something to the house? If you google 'lean-to gazebo' you'll see what I mean. You can buy a kit or make one using joist hangers in the outside wall to fix it to your walls.

Is it an awning you are after? Random supplier here: I'm not recommending them, just giving an idea of what sort of thing is available.
Awnings are usually retractable so you can hide them away when not in use, it stops them making the inside of the house permanently darker.
