Vendors relisted property - is it bad for us to look elsewhere?

We agreed purchase in June on a property. They are the top of a chain of 4. Our vendors are getting impatient about the length of time it is taking for the probate certificate to come through at the bottom of the chain and have relisted their house, although they still want to sell it to us according to their agent. But I guess that if they got a better offer and a smaller/quicker chain then they would sell to somebody else instead.
So it's OK for us to look at other houses too isn't it? If we saw something better than the one we've already agreed to buy there wouldn't be anything morally wrong with withdrawing our offer would there? We haven't exchanged contracts yet although we have completed all the paperwork, got the mortgage offer etc. so that would have to start all over again I guess.
I think I just need somebody to tell me that it's OK to pull out if we see something better! I'm right aren't I?

You are definitely right.

I would say if they are hedging their bets then they can't complain at you doing the same.

@BentBastard That's what I was trying to find the words for - hedging their bets! I will feel better now

I agree. Hedge your bets too.

Well as I thought might happen, our vendors have now accepted an offer from a different buyer so our purchase is gone. Really frustrating as there were loads of nice houses on the market a couple of weeks ago when they first relisted theirs but they have all gone now and there is nothing that we like at all.
