Is landlord responsible

I'm not very educated in renting properties as it's my first rental, soon I'm moving house but worried about the wooden patio in the garden, I have stayed here 1 year and after winter with all the rain even stepping on the wooden patio causes damage and my foot sometimes goes through, due to this we have stayed away from going in the garden a lot as it's dangerous, we complained many times but the landlord said it was not a safety hazard, he even sent Gardner's to fix the fence and they were worried about walking on it and broke a lot of the patio. I'm worried now that when I try to get back my deposit he will say I damaged the patio so I won't get my money back, what would you do or is it my fault.

It just looks knackered and rotten through so not your fault. It’s the landlord’s responsibility and I’d be annoyed as you haven’t been able to enjoy the garden due to the poor state of repair.

Make sure you keep your correspondence in which you complained about it.

what did the inventory say about the patio when you moved in? and yes, keep all correspondence

Is your deposit in the deposit scheme?

If so, what does the inventory say regarding the decking?

what does your rental contract say about garden/patio use and maintenance?

As a landlord and a renter I think this is completely the landlords responsibility.
The decking is rotten and dangerous.
It would be the landlords responsibility to maintain the decking with sealant and your keep it clutter free to enable them to do this.
Once it is rotten they need to replace it as it is a health and safety risk.
