Hello. Pre lockdown I had a couple of the main kitchen sellers ( wickes and benchmarxx) come round for a quote. It’s for new units / flooring etc but no major extension or new layout

They both estimated it would be a 2-3 week job, but I just had a builder round and he started talking about new plaster boards, and a temporary kitchen in another room as it might take at least a month.

Was I taken in by the sales people or is he being OTT? Thanks so much

ours was a strip out which took half the plaster on the walls with it,
new electric circuit all round, replaster walls, units in, timing were
cupboards out 1 day
1st fix electrics 2 days
plaster 1 day to put on walls
7 days to dry out completely
2nd fix electrics 1 day
painting walls and woodwork two coats 2 days
installing new cupboards sink unit and worktops 2 daysso around 16 days for the basic kitchen its surpirising how much destruction you get before it all comes together
and we still have tiling and flooring to do so 2-3 weeks is not unrealistic
we left the fridge freezer in the kitchen and ran an extension lead to it from the lounge
i set up on two coffee tables in the lounge the kettle, coffee machine, microwave/convection oven and air fryer and between them we managed to eat ok, did the washging up in a bowl in the bath

2-3 weeks is what it would take if your kitchen is bare and ready to fit the new units.
And your countertops are measured to be fitted until the base cabinets are in.
If you need to strip your existing kitchen and move electric items/pipes You need to add additional time for that.

So realistically, I’d allow 4/5 in total from one kitchen to another finished kitchen.

Yes, he did mention not ordering the parts until measurements were updated after plastering. Ok, sounds like my trusted builder was more on track than the salesman , who would have thought it !!!
