Period house, new double glazing would be incredibly expensive, we’re in a conservation area. What’s your experience of secondary glazing? They are wide casement windows.

If its listed, you may not be allowed secondary glazing. We used a company called www.magneglaze.co.uk/
Very pleased with them. You need somewhere to store them though in the summer.

My grandparents had it in their listed place. Very cheap and effective.

There are some very good secondary glazing companies that specialise in this e.g.

I have had fixed secondary glazing and Magneglaze and another, cheaper magnetic system, and both have benefits.

The fixed systems were much more expensive but also meant you could could have a sliding sash etc. and were very good acoustically. Magneglaze were good quality but you can do something cheaper if you just order the sheets of acrylic cut to size and the magnetic tape and put it up yourself (pretty easy job). You have to take this system down if you want to open the windows though. We used to take it down in the warmer months and hide it under our bed, the magnetic tape isn't very obvious on the windows and you can even paint it the same colour as the walls or woodwork.

They all make a huge difference to drafts and warmth in an old house though.

I want to find out if the new green deal will cover secondary....

We have secondary glazing over a massive square bay. Glazing slides to so you can still open a window in an emergency.

We're on a busy road with double glazing windows. Will secondary glazing help reduced the noise?
