Why not say sold on property sale listing?

We wanted to view a property - got in touch with agent who said it had just sold.

One week later it’s still advertised as for sale - no indication on listing of offer accepted etc. Doesn’t that just create extra work inciting enquiries that have to be turned away?

I hate this. I phoned about a house on Monday and they said it was sold but it’s still not showing as sold on Rightmove

The house we offered wasn't removed from right move for a week even though it was sold. We had to send all paperwork over including mortgage in principle and a current mortgage statement which took a week to be supplied by our bank. We also had to have a money laundering interview etc so that's why it hasn't been removed.

the house either sold years ago or never existed. Had this a lot when we were buying...amazing it always had just sold today. And when I rung the following week thinking maybe it had fallen through...oh it just sold again. it's a marketing ploy to get you through the door

My house is still on the right move site and the sale was completed at the end of March.

We have two potential dream homes that are both still live a month after we were told they were sold - the EA confirmed that it was 'in case the sales fall through'. Not a marketing ploy on their part - made absolutely no effort to interest me in their other properties!

Since they're not letting anyone view them (both unoccupied) I'm not really sure of the logic...

Ours stayed on for a week until the buyer provided all the necessary documentation like the DIP and money laundering checks. Then a memorandum of sale was issued and it was changed to sold.

It's definitely a marketing ploy in my area. Some EA will mark it under offer or SSTC, but some just leave it without changing it until exchange of contracts. Then they finally mark it as sold. Obviously, they won't show you the property, but will try and book you in to view other 'similar' properties instead!

its a marketing ploy. we left a message with an estate agent about a bungalow...turns out its sold. they have non stop called me since. then when i didnt answer they messaged me saying we are calling in regards to the bungalow you have messaged us about!

We’ve had this and I hate it. I could understand if it was a case of getting people to ring up so that they can say “oh sorry that just sold but we have XYZ which you might be interested in?” But every time, without fail, I’ve run to be told “oh that’s sold” and then be hung up on. There are a couple of EAs round here who are dreadful for it so we avoid them now. As soon as I see it’s marketed by them I won’t even countenance enquiring as their customer service is so absolutely dire it’s just not a good sign of things to come is it really?

I had 4 offers on my house recently the agent had to look into each of their financial positions, this took a while. I didn't want anymore viewings during that period but house not listed as SSTC until I'd accepted an offer.

I think they do it to appear to have a good market share/presence in the area. In my neck of the woods the market is really hot so if all listings were up to date, they’d be almost nothing listed as it all sells very quickly.

Most annoying as a buyer, though.
