What could be going on here? Three weeks ago a heating engineer called, as arranged quite efficiently, to look at my CH which has failed. He was perfectly nice and helpful, said something needed doing (so long ago now I've forgotten exactly what) and that the office would contact me about it. So three weeks go by, and I phone the office to find out what's happening. Actually what prompted me was an almost inaudible voicemail from them mentioning 'outstanding', so I guessed this was about their call-out fee. When I said I had heard nothing else from them, the woman was very apologetic, said there was nothing on record from the engineer, and she would get back to me. Again, nothing from them 24 hours later. By the way I have not had a bill for the call-out fee - I've carefully checked this.
Is this normal? As I said to the woman, I am in limbo and don't know what to do about getting my CH repaired. She seemed to understand, but has now vanished herself. I am loath to try to re-start with them, as I fear this pattern will be repeated. For now, I am just curious to know how often this sort of thing happens. It occurred to me that a company could try to live off call-out fees alone, never doing any actual work. Or that the engineer met with an unmentionable mishap.
