Mortgages - HSBC?

Hello! Is anyone currently going through a mortgage application with HSBC? How is the process going? I’ve read so many bad things about their wait times, and although we have an AIP with them am tempted to go elsewhere. We don’t have any branches locally so would all need to be done online/over the phone!

They were good up until about a year ago but these days their wait times are astronomical, I would look elsewhere

We waited about 3.5 weeks for ours. It was an agonising wait!

This might be of use to you! Helps to know how long you'll be approximately waiting.

We’ve just come out of an agonising 5 week wait

Thank you for that @NachoNachoMan, really helpful!
@limpingparrot was that how long they took to process your whole application, after all documents uploaded etc?

I'm waiting 5ish weeks for a mortgage appointment with First Direct (part of HSBC Group). Dread to think how much longer once the appointment is done...

NannyPear · 19/08/2020 20:00

We've just did ours last week. Had phone appointment on the Wednesday, mortgage offered on the Friday.

The only delay could have been getting the mortgage appointment. When we phoned we were told there was a 4 week wait, but I found that I could book the appointment online and there were what I assume were cancelled appointments so got one much quicker.

I think they are one of the few still offering 90%ltv mortgages without silly interest rates so are super busy.

GrumpyHoonMain · 19/08/2020 20:20

They have made a lot of people who oversee the mortgage underwriting team redundant so there are even greater delays than normal.
