Bed in a Box experiences?

Hey,

Just wondered if anyone had any experience of a Bed in a Box? Any particular brand recommendations?

I'm keen on Tempur mattresses. Yes, they're expensive, but over 10 years it's worth the investment. Or am I buying into the Dreams marketing?!

alternatively - any other mattress recommendations welcomed. Silentnight seems to be well stocked by most places and I've had that before - it's fine, but a lot of ranges to choose from.

Just get a tempur if you’re used to it and can afford it. We have just replaced ours after trying some cheaper alternatives and they weren’t anywhere near as good.

Bought the Emma mattress, didn’t like it but company service was good and refund no problem. Then tried the sim a which was awful, and it took about 3 months to get our money back and many emails. Then just went to dreams and bought a tempur, which we should have just done in the first place!

I've an Emma and I really like it.
NEVER pay full price, they've always a sale on.

We've got the Simba and I love it, so much so we bought it for DD as well.

We had an Eve and one other that I can't remember the name of (where they don't have any shops and just send it out) they were both far to hard for me as I sleep on my side. DH loved them but I made him send them back.

We rented an expensive holiday home with a new tempur mattress we hated it. It was like lying on a bag of peat and I was soo hot I slept on the floor instead.

We had guests to stay for a few days and gave them the master suite (we didn’t mention the mattress) but when they left the comment was “we will never buy one of those mattresses we were too hot”!!

I have a 'Harrison' mattress, handmade in Yorkshire. They make for John Lewis too.

I slept so well on a Harrison mattress in a luxury holiday home, I found the label and ordered the same.
However I bought it from eBay as a bargain 'customer return'.

Tempur cooltouch mattress with new divan (structurally stronger than bed frame with slacks apparently) and headboard looking at about £3k. However, it comes with 10 year guarantee and they say it should last 20 years. It's a lot of money - I know of people who spend 25% of that on both bed frame and Mattress.

Is Tempur worth it at that much?!

A silentnight full divan and mattress is about £1k. More reasonable in price I guess. But sleep and health is important, so maybe I should just go with the £3k tempura?

@fairislecable That's interesting because temper have a cooltouch range which is supposed to work with temperature. However, they do have a cheaper range without cool touch, about 4 cm shorter.

This doesn’t bode well for me - my tempur is now about 12 years old so I will no doubt have to buy a new mattress soon.

I had thought the same as you OP, a cheaper alternative to tempur could be the way to go for me!

To those who didn’t like the simba or Emma type mattresses, had you previously had tempur and these ‘newcomers’ didn’t live up to your expectations, or was this a first experience of a non-spring mattress?

My daughter has a Simba mattress and I find it really comfortable. I’ve only ever slept on it a night here and there though.

I have a tempur it’s about ten years old. The only thing I don’t like about it is that it is very hot. Great in winter but I am throwing the bed clothes off the rest of the time. It is on slats on a 1880’s wrought iron and brass bed.

We've recently bought an Emma mattress. Although comfortable both me and my husband find it a little too warm especially now it's summer although it's very comfortable.
This was our first experience of a bed in a box mattress.
The other thing I've found off putting is the smell. Mines around 6 weeks old and there is still a slight chemical smell To it which was really strong when we first took it out of the box.

I know this won't be what you want to hear, but the bed in a box model is very bad for the environment. We now have mattress mountains in landfill because they just get thrown away if they are returned. Its a really wasteful and unsustainable business model.

It's great you are doing your research and thinking about what will.meet your needs, but do try to test it out in real life if you can.

Just get the Tempa. Our current Tempa, which is about 6 years old, doesn’t suffer from the hot problem like our older one did. Just keep the receipt/guarantee as our first one only lasted about 5 years but I couldn’t find the receipt to claim!! We have tried other cheaper versions & they’re just not the same.

I bought a Hyde and Sleep mattress. Really wanted a SiMBA but couldn't afford it. Found the Hyde and sleep to hard so had to buy a topper for it. It is so big and heavy that I couldn't face sending it back. It's got no handles so I can't move it. Also have to buy extra deep sheets for it as well. Wish I'd bought the SiMBA!
