Bulkhead in bathroom- small ex council bathroom

We want to refurb our bathroom soon. I’m hoping someone here has had something similar because google and Pinterest aren’t being helpful! We have a tiny bathroom which has the bulkhead/headway box from the stairs. It’s currently a cupboard but it’s too big and a waste of space and just makes the room feel crowded. The issue is we cannot fully remove it because the bulkhead cannot be adjusted.

My husband considered we could potentially put the bath across it, as the bath could fit some way with the bath slope following the bulkhead slope but we don’t think it would fit length ways due to the toilet down pipe. I’m considering keeping the layout as it is with the bath under the window but we want to install a shower head too.... we could leave the toilet and maybe build a sink into the bulkhead and some storage that isn’t so imposing but I think it will still look bulky but I don’t think it can be avoided.

We have the boiler cupboard over the bulkhead and all the plumbing and wiring for the shower pump are in it. The shower is on the other side and is above the bath which goes from the bulkhead to the window.

Hm see I have considered doing that if we can fit in the bath that way but will need to do some more measurements

We have put a basin and worktop over ours. We also have ample storage under as our bulkhead is 1000mm in length!

Hi OP, we moved our bathroom round completely a couple of years ago and put the bath over the bulkhead area. Ours is not sloped though...would having a raised bath work to gain extra length? I'm thinking about a platform/ step up to the bath? We installed a macerator loo to simplify the plumbing/ soil pipe issue. Good luck with your planning!

That’s the responses, they are much appreciated! I don’t suppose either of you have any pictures? I have thought about raising the bath slightly and loving it but was worried about practicalities and slipping risk

You need to measure your room. I doesn't look like a full length bath right now (1700mm). I'd guess that you could fit a 1500mm bath from the window wall to the bulkhead, that boxing in the corner might be require a shorter bath. I'd want the shower to be on the door side, rather than the window side because showers over windows seem off to me, the window sill will get soaked! So the slope of the bath would be the 'wrong' end.

The toilet would need to move to the window wall - but that should be relatively easy if the soil pipe is in the boxing.

Measure the room and play with a bathroom planner. BandQ have one on their website. or you could use measured scale paper.

Did you ever find a solution? We are about to embark on our bathroom with almost exactly the same problem with huge cupboard above bulkhead too!
