Which shower enclosure glass w/ sliding door?

I think I've finally, finally decided again on what we want - have gone back to a glass sliding door shower enclosure rather than wet room panel. I worry about the door coming of it's 'runners' is that likely?

So any particular brands to prefer. It will be either 1400mm or 1500mm wide, enclosed by three walls so no other galss needed. What thickness of glass, at least 8mm?

Anything else to think of? Thanks.

My PILs have one of these and it has come off the runners before. We've got one too, it's never come off the runners but it's really tricky to clean and gunk can collect. Thankfully it's in our old ensuite and we now have a new one with wet room panel so I don't need to worry about it. Much better in my opinion.

This was one of my main things to consider when choosing our bathroom. Don't want a sliding door as cleaning it is a pain, we are getting a half length pane of fixed glass so no hinges, no runners, no where for grime to sit, nothing to break 👌

Matki and Merlyn are quality brands with thick glass, Matki have some clever solutions to allow easy cleaning of the moving parts as I recall. Showerlab is another brand worth a look. None are cheap mind you.

For less money, we had a Bathstore shower enclosure with sliding door that lasted really well, Bathstore gets mixed reviews for quality but that particular one was good.

I also would choose a fixed panel (walk in shower) over a door if your layout allows. But it does need to be at least 1200 long to prevent water going into the bathroom.

Just getting my ripped out after 5 years. It was a pain to clean and filled up with gunk and mould. I'd go for a wet room.

My shower has a sliding door and I've never had a problem with it. I just squirt some bleach down once a week and rinse it well.

We have fixed glass panels with a gap to get in and out. Yes, a bit of water escapes when you're showering and makes the bath mat soggy, but we hang it up after showering to dry. I've had enough rentals with sliding shower doors to know how gross and gunky they get, and how little I enjoy cleaning them!

I think all the comments about cleaning are enough to make me think twice (and more). Plus we prefer the look of the wet room panel's simpler lines.

I will make sure the small amount of floor surface is well sealed and put a bath mat down too. :)

We have just fitted a Kudos Infinite hinged door. It's frameless so apart from the hinge looks much like a glass panel, but feels very solid and will stop water going on the floor. You can get as a 1500mm panel. Not cheap but feels like decent quality

We have hinged doors! Lots of them in two houses! No problems. Sliding isn’t for me. Good thick glass and sturdy hinges and a handle!

Ta @MarmiteCrumpet25 I'll have a look at Eauzone Plus. Wavering back towards a single panel atm, lol. Might adjust the shower curtain to mimic the gap in a wet room panel and see if there's splash! :D
