Hello everyone
Anyone living in Loughton or Debden? some of the houses seem reasonable price and is on the Central Line for commuting. Like to ask your advise is this a safe part of Essex, any areas to avoid please?

I sometimes tutor in loughton...it's generally very nice and expensive area....debden I not sure about..lots of estates and can be chavvy. Also the Broadway is dire for shopping and shops are closing down..also Hainault...all close by but very different to loughton...there were some mugging near the station as commuters walked home and muggers knew most would have a nice watch etc but that seems to have stopped now...

We live in Debden, and were able to buy a large 4-bed semi backing onto forest for the price of a much smaller house in some of the 'nicer' areas, to a large extent due to (imo) unjustified snobbery in relation to Debden vs. 'old' Loughton. Yes there is still some (gasp!) council housing, and yes there is a bit of trouble from time to time with kids in both Loughton and Debden (really, its all one town). But there are also lovely green areas like Jessel Green recently saved from developers by a grass roots campaign, Epping Forest Retail Park for decent shopping, great transport links, and I've found, lovely neighbours and community spirit.
