How can I find out my mpan number (electricity)

I’ve just moved house and need to change energy supplier, the old people were with edf who have written to me, but I want to go with someone else and I need an mpan number, I’ve spent the morning on hold with edf to find the number... can I find it anywhere else?

Thank you.

The mpan is on the meter itself. Google image search mpan and you'll get some examples.

I don't think it is.

But it will be on your electricity bill, probably near the bottom.

Meters have a serial number on them.

On mine it is also on durable labels I made and affixed myself because I used to have a professional interest.

if you cannot obtain a previous bill, try

www.energylinx.co.uk/mpan_request.htm

that page looks out of date to me.

You need to ask your local DNO (distribution network operator) and National Grid maintain a reference that looks up to date

Is there something unusual about the house? In a previous work life I used to have a bit to do with changing suppliers and they were always able to find it themselves, I assume they have access to a central database, is that not possible anymore

You don't need your MPAN to switch, just the address unless it's a new build and not on database yet or there are other issues which mean the database is not up to date.

There are two ways to get the MPAN, from a bill or from the current supplier. The MSN is on your meter.....not the MPAN.

yes, they should be able to find it on the look-up files.

Buildings which have multiple flats, and flats over shops, tend to cause confusion, and you may need to quote the meter serial number as well (this is on the meter).

You can try this one which unlike the others seems to work.
