What colour should I paint this room?

It’s a large attic bedroom. Bright but a very quirky shape. I have some furniture and accessories which I need to work around. They are pretty eclectic but have sentimental value.

At the moment its just white, but the shadows make it varied. I was thinking of a burnt orange feature wall but I can’t seem to find the right colour. I am bored of grey.

What would you suggest?

A pale green, picking out the green in the border of the rug.

SallyWD · 23/07/2020 07:54

I'd leave it white. It looks really nice as it is.

HeartZone · 23/07/2020 07:59

Pale blue like the summer sky

milkysmum · 23/07/2020 08:01

I would personally leave it white. It looks great as it is.

De Nimes blue from F&B - will tie in with the blue trim, or if you still want the orange, check out Little Green, Heat is a lovely burnt orange shade.

I should add that we are thinking of selling...

I think the same, only I'm not seeing a pale green in the rug; I see a pale lemon, so my vote would be for pale lemon. I'd do the wall with the chests along it, and leave the rest of the room white.

Is that a little 1940s cupboard you've got there, OP? I love that 40s style with the horizontal wooden handles.

TrickyKid · 23/07/2020 08:42

Sage green or light pink

yesterdaystotalsteps123 · 23/07/2020 08:45

I think if you are selling leave it white, burnt orange is too personal and will make the room.darker. I've just bought a house with a lovely quirky attic room painted white and it's gorgeous and light!

holymosquito · 23/07/2020 09:00

@Time40 Well spotted! Its wartime utility furniture - my Gran married in 1942 and bought it with special coupons. It’s part of what I need to work around!

As pp have stated either a light green or yellow to match the rug

Time40 · 23/07/2020 09:36

Awww, it's lovely having sentimental things like that OP.

Please post some photos when you've done the room!

TimeWastingButFun · 23/07/2020 09:38

If you're selling then ditto fresh white, maybe voiles at the windows and light furniture, white bedding etc. If you have an orange wall that's great if it's for you but for potential buyers it will make it seem smaller.

TimeWastingButFun · 23/07/2020 09:40

Ah how lovely to have such a special link to the furniture, in that case the wood will also look nice against white, as it is.

slinkysaluki · 23/07/2020 09:41

Id leave it white, whoever buts it might change it anyway. My loft conversion is white it looks nice and bright. I wouldnt waste time or money on it its looks fine as it is 😊

WildCherryBlossom · 23/07/2020 09:44

Gosh before I had seen any other posts I thought sage green. It would bring it all together.

pickingdaisies · 23/07/2020 09:46

If you're thinking of selling I wouldn't bother painting. Except maybe a soft white, but I'd get bedding in the burnt orange, to go with the rug, and maybe a wall hanging or curtains in the same colours

Spied · 23/07/2020 09:49

Icy blue

WildCherryBlossom · 23/07/2020 09:49

Something like F&B Breakfast Room green which goes well with the burnt orange / terracotta tones you like

If it is to sell, leave it white. I would go with a soft colour if you stay, nothing too dark if it already gets shadowy.

Catapultme · 23/07/2020 10:34

green

fruitbrewhaha · 23/07/2020 10:39

Could you do a version of this?

Leave it as it is if you’re going to sell.

WildCherryBlossom · 23/07/2020 12:04

Wow @fruitbrewhaha that room is amazing!

Lemonylemony · 23/07/2020 18:50

Love the room @fruitbrewhaha just shared, have added to that to my Pinterest, the house I am buying has an odd shaped loft room. I’m a lot more excited about decorating it now I’ve seen that :-)

I love the idea of burnt orange, and my first thought was to pick up what I see as a pale aqua colour from your rug & cushion - I think others may be calling that sage green but to me sage green is a lot less blue-toned than that - however, if you’re selling in the near future, then white all the way and put the personality in the soft furnishings. Sorry! I love colour, but bold colour choices are always going to be marmite and not a great idea for selling a house as they’ll put off more buyers than they’ll entice.
