Has anyone got a magic/self cleaning/super carpet that would be fine for my muddy dog and shoes in hallway

We have a lovely big Edwardian hallway and my dream is Edwardian tiles but as they’re going to cost £2000+ and I’m not too sure what my job/income is going to be like in September (I have about half a year’s salary saved for renovations but may have to use it to live!), I was thinking we could carpet for now. Currently the hallway and stairs are carpeted with a v good quality dark red carpet that the previous owners put in, it clashes horribly with the dark blue that I’ve painted under the dado rail though! My idea is that we should just carpet the stairs and then leave the original floorboards /maybe paint them and cover with rugs, until we know what finances are like and can do our lovely tiles, however partner is very against this idea and would prefer we carpet for now and then replace carpet with tiles 5/10 years down the line.

So does anyone know of any super hard wearing/always clean looking carpets? We also get lots of foot traffic with clients coming into the home (they can take shoes off but still!) and our dog looooves mud so much and as much as I try to clean her paws after her walks they will undoubtedly still harbour some mud!

It’s still hundreds to re-carpet, it’s it? I’d probably find a cheap but attractive cotton rug. It’ll probably cost £50 or less and you can put it in the washing machine when dirty. Or maybe just tiled with cheaper tiles.

Honestly I don't think carpet would be ideal at all, I've heard of hard wearing / bleachable carpets but I think you'd pay extra for those, plus I have two muddy dogs and I really wouldn't be arsed bleaching the carpet a few times a week!

The hardwood floors with machine washable rugs imo would be the best idea until you can happily put the money into the tiles!

I realise this is not going to be what you expect, but leave the carpet you have until you are on a better footing finance wise if the only thing wrong with it is the colour.
