How many lamps can I put in the ceiling?

I know so little about lamps that I am not even sure how to phrase this question.

Moving into a rental soon. There are no lights or lamps yet, just the cable in the middle of the ceiling to fix lights to.

Can I freely choose to put either a single lamp or, say, a chandelier with 12 bulbs? Or is there like only enough electricity/light for a certain amount of bulbs and if so, how will I know how many bulbs I can put in?

I am worried I am going to explode bulbs if I don't put enough or that the lamps won't be able to burn at the same time if I put too many? Is that even a thing?

Also, how many light bulbs would you recommend for a average size living room to have enough light in the room in total?

Hope someone understands the question, am totally lost...

modern LED lights use very little electricity so you can probably put lots on a single cable.

For a regular size living room, I'd have one 'room light' in the middle of the ceiling and then other lamps at the side of the room (plugged into the mains on their own) for specific tasks (e.g. reading or sewing etc). So there is not a fixed number of lamps that you need, but rather you can arrange them around the room to get different amounts of light for different tasks & moods.
