Has anyone done this? What do I need to know?

We have a kura. You would need to modify it as there is a crossbar on each end.

Yes that would be the plan. I'd need to take 2 legs off and measure the other 2 to the right length.

I would be worried about the stability as it relies on having the rectangle on the floor. I'd be tempted to go for something more built underneath to support the bed platform.

There's a good few ikea hacker groups on Facebook which might be helpful to you.

Only just spotted your reply @bookgirl after posting here I did some more research and have moved towards this idea. I'm not sure I can diy it though so stalemate.

They did this on Your House Made Perfect - I'm trying to think which episode - I think Gemini and James - look at the last 5 minutes. They had one end of the base on the boxing, used the spare floor wood as a wall baton and kept two legs on the end.
