Water Fed Pole Window Cleaning Quote?

Hi all

I wanted to get my upper windows done by a local company.
They gave me a quote for £50 for 4 first floor windows (2 large 3 pane, two small single pane) with vacuuming/cleaning of 10 ft of guttering that gets a fair bit of moss in it.

They got in touch to confirm the booking and I asked if fascias were included (single panel above the windows 200 x 30 cm-ish is all that is required) or if they were extra (and if so how much). I had forgot to mention this when they originally priced the job.

Unfortunately they said they would only do them as part of a full package deal for all the plastic on the house and that would be a set price of £250 (includes conservatory). I said unfortunately that doesn't work for me as we get a lot of dust, debris, leaves and bird dropping on the lower windows so I do them when I can.

They then told me that almost everyone just wants the awkward jobs done and that they don't just do that - they offer a comprehensive service. They then told me that they were asked to price up several jobs for small high internal windows this week which they have had to turn down.

I apologised for the misunderstanding and miscommunication with the original quote but wondered what to make of it all. I understand if it's a job that doesn't make financial sense, it's not worth doing, but just turn it down.

Any thoughts? DiY? Different company?

I think most people just have a window cleaner who comes every 4-6 weeks to clean all the windows. Can't you do that? Small irregular jobs are probably not worth it. They quoted you £50 but then you wanted them to do something else, something they hadn't quoted you for.

Yes fair point - it was my mistake in not being clear on what I needed doing.

I just wondered if it was something that could be added on to the job for a price.

£250 is a little too high for me though at present.

They were being CF in my opinion.

Not sure, they probably just don't want to do small one off jobs. If you had a regularly window cleaner to do all the windows every few weeks, they'd probably be more than happy to add on small extra jobs. We had all of our guttering and fascias cleaned by our window cleaner recently for £70. He cleans all of our windows every 4 weeks roughly for £15.

Good grief that's seems ludicrously high to me. We have a three storey house and a lot of windows/glass doors we have ours done by hand (previously pole) for £20 they come every 4 weeks. We've had our gutters cleaned and soffits/facias cleaned once a year for £100 - different company. I'd shop around OP. We are in the West Midlands.
