DIY laminate / vinyl click

I'd love to know if anyone who has laid DIY laminate or vinyl click has any tips or words of wisdom. Are there any particular brands to avoid or choose, or are they all much the same?

The room in question isn't massive; just over 8 sq m and square shaped. Luckily the radiator pipes go in above the skirting board so there shouldn't be any tricky shaping beyond cutting the boards to fit.

I've laid laminate before, on my own and it's pretty easy to be honest!
Best bit of advice would be to have the right tools to hand and you'll sail through. Also measure twice, cut once. It's very easy to go into autopilot after a while and make silly mistakes.

We used this kit last time and it was great: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003B91I1M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

And have previously used a saw like this, which we picked up from B&Q
www.amazon.co.uk/Hilka-45700009-Floorboard-Saw-TPI/dp/B009SAIR26/ref=sr_1_12?dchild=1&keywords=laminate+saw&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&qid=1594737078&sr=8-12

Haven't laid laminate vinyl click as yet, but we've bought some for our current house. It was delivered a little while ago and it looks the same as laminate, so I don't imagine they'd be too dissimilar. We bought the one with pre-attached underlay.

Thank you so much @AnnieMaul, that is really helpful. Would you recommend where you found the vinyl click?

Sorry, just catching up on this now!

We got ours from Wood & Beyond
www.woodandbeyond.com/

It's the LVT flooring and we went for the Herringbone style.
They currently have a sale on with discount code: WJU7 too Smile

We have vinyl click flooring and unless you have a north facing room I wouldn't recommend it - it expands and contracts a lot with heat and you end up with gaps. It is easy to lay as a DIY job but still not worth the effort.

Thanks @bashcrashfall - we actually have Polyflor vinyl click downstairs but it was professionally installed. We do get gaps and have to push it back in place but I had never considered the temperature issue. It was originally fitted during a heatwave and we were completely horrified when it was first fitted and bowed terribly in places because it expanded so much in the heat. The fitters came back and trimmed enough under the skirting to allow for the expansion and it settled down.

This flooring is for DS’s bedroom but it is SE facing so laminate is probably the way to go.
