Are prices shooting up where you are?

Focusanddetermination · 13/07/2020 21:47

Just that really. I'm in a small Midlands town, have a high amount of activity and prices shooting up in the past few weeks even.

I thought people would be more hesitant with a looming recession, but it's almost the opposite.

Yes. It was priced low to start with and we've dropped it multiple times now. Flats without gardens aren't selling.

We already have the one DC and another on the way. The second bedroom is a box room. I cant fathom thought of having to stay here with two children

yellowymellowy · 17/07/2020 21:36

@BakedBlossoms-sorry I must have mixed you up with a couple of other posters who wanted DC soon.

ChocoTrio · 17/07/2020 21:41

@BakedBlossoms

Have you considered a part exchange with a builder? I don't know how it works with flats tbh, but worth checking.

Atm prioritise your health - not easy under the circumstances, I can appreciate that. These things have a way of working out. Could you manage in the flat for the next year or so if you had to? Maybe draw up a plan B to help feel better about the situation?

Where there's a will, there's a way... Smile

BakedBlossoms · 17/07/2020 21:45

If we had to stay another year I could square myself with that but I can't face negative equity and having to stay here forever.

Smallgoon · 17/07/2020 21:57

@BakedBlossoms When did you buy the flat? What makes you so sure you're facing negative equity? I wouldn't take any notice of the scaremongering. A lot of it is from people themselves desperate to buy, but hoping for a 50% reduction which is never going to happen.

ChocoTrio · 17/07/2020 21:59

@BakedBlossoms

Well the stamp duty holiday may help your situation. Fingers crossed.

Keep the flat on the market, but have a game plan for staying for a year or so. There are still FTB looking for flats - even without a garden.

I remember once looking for a place as a lodger and the landlady had a 1 bedroom flat that she treated as a 2 bedroom flat - where the living room was her bedroom and the bedroom she let out to lodgers. So, could you do something like that?

ChocoTrio · 17/07/2020 22:01

@BakedBlossoms - btw that was a long time ago, mind you, and I didn't go for that place in the end. But - I thought it was a savvy idea nonetheless. You can be clever with your use of space. Lots of websites and articles about it.
**@marysuzairn* I'm not worried about my property portfolio in London at all.*

Nice little humblebrag about the £3M property "portfolio" Grin. Sure. What next love? "AIBU because my back hurts as the Lamborghini is too low?"; "Anyone else want to swap Birkins?" GrinGrinGrin
It's hardly a brag, it's relevant and 3m in London is a small portfolio. I didn't buy too many because I didn't want to be overleveraged and concentrate on paying off all the mortgages and on my principal home by the time I was 45.

I don't really have any skin in the game as the majority of my debt has been repaid and the properties are all worth way more than I paid for them.

I think the fact you call east London a shithole does speak volumes

BakedBlossoms · 17/07/2020 22:53

Smallgoon we bought in 2015 but then I fell pregnant (unplanned). We've been fine here with DS all that time but we won't fit a new baby in here too. Believe me we can't get any more creative than we already have. Its so upsetting. We bought for 345k and have 265k left on the mortgage.

BeijingBikini · 17/07/2020 22:57

Lol, how the other half live!

plainsailing01 · 17/07/2020 23:11

@Smallgoon
Money can't buy class, clearly
And what would you know about either darling? Wait. Maybe one day your £300k house will be worth a billion. Not.

That I’m not a slumlord quasi millionaire? You’re right. I’m not.

Smallgoon · 17/07/2020 23:41

Ahhh the troll @plainsailing01 has returned, or shall I call you @thequantofmontecarlo because you are the same person, right? Wink

I did wonder if you were.. I'd noticed how similarly you post, how you both target the same people (those that don't believe there is a drastic crash coming), and how both use the same put-downs etc... A quick google search, and voila!

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/3901085-What-do-people-think-about-Glassdoor

I guess the mask dropped in the above thread right...? Did you get your logins muddled up...? Wink

Quick! Time for a sneaky name-change to disguise the fact that you have multiple user names to troll!

Sad really, I thought only 12 years olds did this sort of thing, guess I was wrong. Grin

So which is it? A £1m boat, or FTB waiting for a crash? Keen to know which alter ego is real and which is invented...

@marysuzairn @TheGuruishere So now you know!

ChocoTrio · 17/07/2020 23:48

Good luck waiting around for that East Finchley home to drop in value by 50%... Wink

ChocoTrio · 17/07/2020 23:49

OMG! I was not expecting that!

Smallgoon · 17/07/2020 23:53

@ChocoTrio Sorry if I've ruined an illusion for you. But they both follow me around like a bad smell, and their posts (particularly when @plainsailing01 isn't trolling) are near identical... It was easy to make the correlation.

I actually figured it out a week ago but thought I'd leave him/her to it. If having multiple usernames are what gets people off, than it's none of my business. But both users (whilst sometimes making valid points) often seek to belittle other posters unnecessarily. So I thought it was time to call it out.

Redhair23 · 17/07/2020 23:54

@Smallgoon I know that we are not supposed to troll hunt but I had my eye on that one for a while and that’s good detective work!

Desiringonlychild · 17/07/2020 23:56

@Smallgoon wow I wasn't expecting that

I think quant wanted to buy in Finchley central. I did think it was a bit weird because £850k can definitely buy you a 3 bed there so no need to wait for crash? In East Finchley, it can just about get you a 3 bed terraced but not much choice.

Smallgoon · 17/07/2020 23:57

@Redhair23 I didn't realise there were rules on troll hunting! For what it's worth, I wasn't.

As I said, I just noticed a pattern in the posts. I honestly just come on here to share opinions, and try to help others. Not to catch people out. Though it really wasn't difficult detective work, haha.

Redhair23 · 17/07/2020 23:59

It wasn’t a dig, sorry if it came across like that, I had thought the same for a while.

Smallgoon · 17/07/2020 23:59

@Desiringonlychild Sorry, I just saw Finchley, and East is the one that immediately comes to mind!

I don't have an issue with Quant, I actually find some of their posts really useful and interesting. But I don't enjoy the nasty name-calling. It seems that the other username was used solely to troll others, and trust me, I have come across many a horrible post from that plainsailing character.

Smallgoon · 18/07/2020 00:00

@Redhair23 Not at all Wink

I'm just glad I'm not the only one that had suspicions.

ChocoTrio · 18/07/2020 00:09

@Smallgoon

That is a surprise. Yes, good natural detective skills.

I only noticed the (supposedly millionaire) plainsailing character today tbh. I guess the overuse of the phrase "darling" felt a little fake - reminded me of Joanna Lumley in Absolutely Fabulous "Absolutely fabulous darling sweetie darling".

Well. I really do not understand the motivation, especially on a thread about property Hmm

Desiringonlychild · 18/07/2020 00:11

@Smallgoon I guess another question is whether the alter egos are even real. People get advice from Mumsnet because they believe that the people on it are genuine and sharing their life experiences..of course it isn't wise to rely on anonymous posters. But it still serves as a barometer of public opinion on the internet. It is utterly useless if there are loads trolls/multiple identities. Like if everyone had 5 usernames and posted 5 different stories, there would be no point to browsing Mumsnet cos you are just arguing with trolls and getting lots of bogus info/opinions.

I get that people name change if they want to post about sensitive topics but obviously not arguing on the same thread like that.

Smallgoon · 18/07/2020 00:14

@ChocoTrio Check out the below (pg12) and tell me it's not quant...
