Hi there

I just wanted to know what others thought of this. A house has come up on sale that ticks our boxes in almost every respect other than having a large field behind it. There is a football club and also some extra field that I am not sure still is part of football club. We have heard cases of mugging due to short cut through the fields taken to the city center. We go on long holidays for 3-4 weeks every year. Will it safe to buy this sort of house with field behind it? Thanks.

Interested in this to - only the house I'm viewing has a field in front.
Is it detached, OP? I'd think if semi- or a terrace thee neighbours would hear if anone was breaking when you are away.

Break in's happen every where and personally it would not make me stop buying a house I really loved. I have relatives who go everything stolen whiles they where away for Christmas and they lived on the 3rd floor of a 5 story apartment complex. I also had a aunt that got burgled at around 6am in her terrace house whilst she was still asleep upstairs.

When I was young we used to live in a detached house that backed out on a national park. We got things stolen twice (probable by teenagers). Once because we left a downstairs window open on a ledge and they could reach in and grab stuff of the window sill. The second time the garage door was unlocked and they stole a tool box.

If you go on long holidays get lights that you can put on a timer. Inform neighbours you trust. Ask someone to come round regularly to water plants and collect mail so that the place does not look empty.
