Wardrobes across chimney breast or either side in alcoves?

Hi I’m having a nightmare trying to decide how to arrange new wardrobes in our bedroom. We’re redecorating with new carpet being fitted etc. There is only one wall they can go along which has an off centre shallow and narrow chimney breast. For the past 15 years we’ve had mirrored sliding wardrobes going the whole way across and they installed shelves in front of the chimney breast for additional storage. I want mirrors again but with hinged doors and have decided on IKEA PAX tall wardrobes with mirrored fronts. My dilemma is whether to go the whole way across again (I’ve found a company who will cut a carcass around the chimney breast so it would be streamlined) or to break it up and have the chimney breast showing with wardrobes either side. I’ve attached a photo below which isn’t my bedroom but a very similar layout with a slightly larger left alcove. So left alcove measures 215cm which will house 2x 100cm wardrobes, right alcove measures 140cm which could house 125cm of wardrobes (one 75 and one 50). When we had our wardrobes done years ago I did feel they closed the room in going right the way across, even tho they were mirrored. However the floor to ceiling mirrors were lovely and light. But I wonder if it would look odd having 7 mirror wardrobes with a chimney breast showing between wardrobes 4 and 5. The chimney breast is about 50cm wide and 30cm deep. I’ve looked all over the internet and cant find any photos of mirrored ones in alcoves with a small off centre chimney breast. Will going straight across close the room in or will it look better to be streamlined? They’ll almost reach the ceiling too. Thanks

This is very similar to what we have.

This is how it should look with them going straight across.

What kind of style is your house?

Quirky with period features or streamlined and modern? Do you have a fireplace on the chimney?

It’s a 1930s semi, this is the back bedroom. No fireplace on chimney breast.

What construction is your house and is it a gable end wall?

GOODCAT · 08/07/2020 19:50

Personally I would expose the chimney breast, but not if I needed the extra storage.

Reason I ask is wardrobes on outside walls can be problematic for mould and condensation, especially in some older house construction types.

It’s an inside wall, adjacent to the house we are attached to.

If there is no feature fireplace I would probably have wardrobes the whole length of the wall
